Mosquito Hunters Franchisee Appreciates How the Brand’s Franchisee Support Systems Allowed Him to Excel in His First Year
Brian Fuqua, A Mosquito Hunters owner in Tennessee, exceeded the goals he set for himself in 2022.
After two decades working in the auto manufacturing industry, Brian Fuqua was experiencing the entrepreneurial itch. He wanted to be in business for himself, have more flexibility and be in a career that allowed him more time out in nature. After researching different franchise systems, he found that Mosquito Hunters, the 130-plus-unit residential and commercial pest control franchise, fit the bill perfectly.
“Mosquito Hunters kept popping up as an attractive option,” Fuqua said. “And as I inquired about it, everybody was so friendly, helpful and informative. They have a plan set that I believe in, and even though I had never owned my own business before, I knew that if I followed the brand’s plan, I could be successful without the need for many employees.”
After signing a franchise agreement last winter, Fuqua underwent training in January of this year and started his first season by spring. He is the first Mosquito Hunters franchisee in Tennessee and serves the areas of Murfreesboro, Mount Juliet and Smyrna, which are heavily populated suburbs of Nashville.
Business has been flourishing, with Fuqua having an impressively successful first season of operations. At the beginning of the year, he set a goal to reach 100 clients. He met this goal within three months. At the close of the season, his operations had 160 customers.
“These are some of the largest cities in the state of Tennessee, and I don't have a lot of competition. I’m the only local mosquito control company. Other pest control companies do it, but Mosquito Hunters is the brand that specializes in it,” he explained. “There is a huge need for these services, which will keep growing because the rate of people moving here is booming.”
Fuqua said he was able to experience such significant success starting out thanks to the franchise’s comprehensive “Ground Game” strategies. With the help of his five kids, he was able to disperse 10,000 door hangers and 300 lawn signs advertising his premium services.
“I’ve been able to show my family and my children that if you put in hard work, you can be successful. They’ve gotten to watch that behind the scenes and have a front-row seat to my progress, and that’s really rewarding,” Fuqua said.
Owning a seasonal, service-based business such as Mosquito Hunters has also afforded Fuqua more flexibility and work-life balance. He enjoys the freedom of having winters off to spend with his kids and to have a schedule that includes plenty of time outdoors — something he’s grateful for after many years working in warehouses.
As Fuqua looks to the upcoming season in 2023, he’s excited to continue growing his business. His hope is to double his customer base and reach 300 clients with the guidance of experienced franchising professionals in the Mosquito Hunters corporate division.
“The franchisor has been extremely helpful in coaching me on how to scale operations to the point where I have a team handling all the spraying, and I’m managing behind the scenes,” he said. “I’m very excited to see how I can grow with this brand.”
The total investment necessary to open a Mosquito Hunters franchise ranges from $89,107-$116,187. The franchise license fee ranges from $30,000 to $40,000.
